how to remove those stubborn yellow stains on baby clothes…

Okay mamas, isn’t it annoying when you get out your *darling* baby clothes to admire or prepare for your upcoming new bubba and see those dreaded yellow stains! <big groan>

I was so excited (and feeling super proud in my proactive productivity) to get everything ready for baby #3 by freshening up my stored baby clothes. So you can imagine my shock when i pulled them out to see so many with the dreaded yellow staining. 🙁 The clothes weren’t even stored away for that long… under a year anyway. Well after researching the root of this problem I discovered that it’s caused by the protein in breastmilk that leaves a residue and doesn’t fully get washed out, turning yellow over time when they’re left. <face palm>

Let me share a handy (inexpensive) quick fix… amazing OxiClean! The process is simple but needs a safe place for leaving to soak (basically away from little toddler hands! haha). You’ll need a plastic tub big enough to hold each load of clothes that you’ll put in the washing machine.

  • Put baby clothes in a plastic tub and fill with hot water (I use a wooden spoon to push the clothes down and to let the air escape)
  • Pour in 1 cup of OxiClean and stir it into the water around the clothes (the crystals will begin to dissolve away in the hot water)
  • Leave to soak for 1-2 hours then pour the water out and transfer baby clothes to your washing machine
  • Add another 1-2 cups of OxiClean directly into the washing machine drum and run laundry on a hot water setting (still use your regular laundry detergent and softener)
  • Handy tip! Rub OxiClean directly onto stubborn yellow stains for maximum effect <hallelujah>

I was stoked and so relieved when I got the baby clothes out of the washing and they were beautiful again and free of any yellow stains – works like a magic potion! haha
